Solving Word Problems with Coins
By Chelsea Herrmann and Allie Funtsch
Summary:
To solve word problems with coins you first need to define your variables. After you do that, you are ready to set up an equation to answer the question. At times, you may have to use elimination or substitution to solve these problems, but a lot of the time there will be just normal equations you have to set up. When you set up your equation you need to solve it for one variable and later plug in that answer to you original equation to get the other variable(s). Sometimes, since this is using coins, you may have to convert your answer into sense, but some problems do not want you to do that so make sure you know what the question's asking for.
