Negative Exponents
Brooke Kaiden and Jessica Levitzki

Summary:
Having a negative exponent just means that the base is on the wrong side of the fraction. In order to solve for a negative exponent, you have to flip the base so it goes on the opposite side. Once you flip the base, the exponent will become positive.

Things to remember:
  1. If there are parentheses, you have to distribute before you flip anything.
  2. If it isn't written as a fraction, you put a 1 as the numerator.
  3. Combine like terms if there are any.
  4. Simplify completely.

Solve:
    1. xy^-3 / a^-2 b^5

    2. 8^-2

    3. a^-4 / b^-6
