Find Excluded Values Of Rational Expressions

Peter Rubenstein & Nick Bonnet

Summary of Topic:
  • A rational expression is an algebraic fraction whose numerator and denominator are polynomials.
  • Any values of a variable that result in a denominator of zero must be excluded from the domain of that variable.
    • This is called the excluded values
  • To determine the excluded values of a ration expression, you must be able to factor the denominator first.
